The disgraceful Drama of the Grand Palace Politics

The news about athlete Haile G. Selassie’s ambition to become the next president of the country. It was about a couple of weeks ago that I came across the news about Ethiopian athlete Haile G. Selassie’s ambition to become the next president of the country. As it was during and after the 2005 election that Haile became one of those individuals who involved themselves in carrying out the dirty political job of the ruling party, I did take his ambition neither as a surprise nor unusual . Needless to say, the tyrannical ruling party has instituted this presidential palace politics not because it believed the president symbolizes the unity of the people and the sovereignty of the country. Well, I have to say that having a head of state as a national symbol is not wrong as such. There is considerable number of countries with this form of political structure including royal families. Although it is absurd to make (force) the poverty-stricken people of Ethiopia to pay taxes for a person who is merely symbolic, it could be tolerable if that person would have served as a genuine national symbol. Sadly enough, “our president” of the grand palace, Meto Aleqa Girma WoldeGeorgis has been used as symbol of not the people and the country, but as a supporting stuff and instrument that advances the dirty political drama of the ruling party.    I do not think any genuine fellow Ethiopian would ask me to do vast and deep research on this very self-evident and unfortunate political nonsense (head of state without head in a real sense of the term).

Imagine how much the people of Ethiopia should pay for all costs of the presidential palace which has nothing to do with representing their interests. As a matter of fact, this office does carry out the ugly political agenda of the tyrannical ruling circle of TPLF/EPRDF. TPLF/EPRDF just set up this lifeless political structure to deceive the people that they have a president (head of state) as their national symbol. It goes without saying that the very cynical ruling elite led by a very arrogant and dangerously hypocritical person (the late Ato Meles Zenawi) has used and continue to use this presidential office as one of its dirty tools . I strongly argue that this office of the president is nothing but a very notoriously parasitic arm of the ruling party that exists /lives at the very expense of the innocent people of Ethiopia who  are forced to go hungry together with their children. Is this not extremely outrageous? I do not think any genuinely concerned Ethiopian would otherwise try hard to justify this very crystal clear reality.

Now, athlete Halie is getting us ready to join his presidential inaugural ceremony and dance a tail –wagging dance with him and his cronies. I completely agree with journalist Abebe Gelaw’s open letter addressed directly to athlete Haile G. Selassie on 07/18/2013(Amharic). I truly believe that those Ethiopians such as athlete Haile who have secured great respect and reputation for what they have done should not be allowed when they terribly mess with the innocent people of Ethiopia. Their great records in certain performances cannot be licenses to align themselves with the tyrannical ruling circle and victimize the people who have a lot to do with their successes. Absolutely not!!! Yes, if someone who used to be a precious or golden performer in certain area of talent turned himself or herself into a spade, there is a need to call him or her a spade. So, to athlete Halie and the like, I want to say:
. The innocent people of Ethiopia want to make the presidential office their true representative and directly responsible to their sovereign power. They cannot afford continue paying their tax money for an office that is not only good for nothing but most disturbingly an instrument for playing dirty political game!

. It is absolutely good for athlete Haile to distance himself from this kind of deadly political mess. He has to be unequivocally advised not to make the self-inflicted damage he made since 2005 much graver. If possible, regret and treat his self- inflicted wound appropriately and get back to his full reputation; if not get out of the peoples’ way before it is too late! Do not get tempted to cause a much more pain to the innocent people of Ethiopia who have enormous support and admiration for your success (as an athlete and an investor) while they go through a very devastating way of life!!

To sum up, there is a need to challenge those individuals who unfortunately are tempted to abuse peoples’ respect and admiration by going in a very wrong direction (muddling in a dirty political game). The Ethiopian people are sick and tired of a very senseless political drama of the last two decades; and they left with nothing but fighting back for the realization of their political freedom and respect for their basic human rights and human dignity. Will athlete Haile and all other individuals who knowingly or unknowingly tempted to abuse peoples’ respect and admiration think twice before they get drowned into a very deep and contaminated mass of water? I hope they would!
