Six senior staff members of the Ministry of Education (MoE) died in a tragic car accident yesterday, at a place called Filiqliq – a little further on from the town of Gohatsion (180Km north-west of Addis Abeba) – Fortune has learnt. Close to 30 experts, team leaders and directors were onboard a bus travelling to an education summit to be held in the town of Debremarkos, in Amhara Regional State. The meeting was to evaluate the implementation of the half-year plan of the Ministry, in the attendance of the heads of education bureaus of all regional states, according to officials at the Ministry. Remains of those perished during the accident, such as Meseret Teshome, expert in women’s affairs, Tesfaye, education expert, and Zeineba, secretary for Fuad Ibrahim (PhD), state minister for Ministry of Education, were brought to Addis Abeba, where an autopsy was carried out at the Menelik II Hospital. Those injured are getting treatment at St. Paulos Hospital, Fortune can confirm.
